In My Mailbox #547

This have been a long and exhausting week. Gosh. I have read very little of my re-read of Kingsbane, but I'm making progress still :) I'm loving it, of course, but taking forever to read, as I'm never in the mood to read. Oops. We had finally started to get a little spring feeling. A little green grass. Then suddenly snow storms every day and almost a whole goddamn meter of more snow have arrived in the past few days. And colder again too. Very tired of this snow. Hmph. It's eeeverywhere. Will at least last about a week more. Hoping it will stop soon. So rude. Anyway. I did get some pretty mail this week, though, so yay for that :D And waiting on some epic things as well. <3 And oh! It is my birthday on Tuesday :D Eee! I am turning 29. Gosh. So old, haha. But yeah. I'm excited. I always love my birthdays. Presents from family. Good food and cake. I'm excited. <3 This week I'm waiting on Book of Night :) I hope you are all well. <3

The Art of The Batman. I just had to buy this art book, haha :D Because of Robert Pattinson, always.
ExtraOrdinary. I couldn't resist buying this one when I was ordering from Waterstones. Looks awesome.
Real Easy. Finally got to buy the UK edition, with special endpapers via Waterstones. Hope to read soon.
Thornlight. Eee. US paperback edition is out. Of course I needed two copies, for my Claire collection. <3
Pop Figures. Finally got to buy more Pokemon pops, via Amazon :D Love all of these so very much :)
Cat Peach. This figure I just had to buy. She is way too cute. And I almost never see any Peach items.
Plants vs Zombies. Couldn't resist buying this game for my Switch, haha. Used to play it on my phone.

Waiting on Wednesday #549

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

BOOK OF NIGHT BY HOLLY BLACK

Goodreads Description:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black makes her stunning adult debut with Book of Night, a modern dark fantasy of shadowy thieves and secret societies in the vein of Ninth House and The Night Circus

In Charlie Hall’s world, shadows can be altered, for entertainment and cosmetic preferences—but also to increase power and influence. You can alter someone’s feelings—and memories—but manipulating shadows has a cost, with the potential to take hours or days from your life. Your shadow holds all the parts of you that you want to keep hidden—a second self, standing just to your left, walking behind you into lit rooms. And sometimes, it has a life of its own.

Charlie is a low-level con artist, working as a bartender while trying to distance herself from the powerful and dangerous underground world of shadow trading. She gets by doing odd jobs for her patrons and the naive new money in her town at the edge of the Berkshires. But when a terrible figure from her past returns, Charlie’s present life is thrown into chaos, and her future seems at best, unclear—and at worst, non-existent. Determined to survive, Charlie throws herself into a maelstrom of secrets and murder, setting her against a cast of doppelgangers, mercurial billionaires, shadow thieves, and her own sister—all desperate to control the magic of the shadows.

With sharp angles and prose, and a sinister bent, Holly Black is a master of shadow and story stitching. Remember while you read, light isn’t playing tricks in Book of Night, the people are.

It took me a whole week to read, but I finished my re-read of Furyborn yesterday, eee. <3 I'm hopefully starting Kingsbane tonight :) I'm too nervous to re-read this one, ha. But so excited too, of course. Just. Yeah. My poor heart. This week have gone by so fast, I feel like. As I focused on being able to read at all. A little almost every day. A few spa baths this week too. And me just being fully exhausted and dead and hurting all over. Sigh. So rude. But I'm glad I finally read a book :) And I'm so happy that I still loved it just as much as the first time I read it. <3 That's the best feeling. Got a little bit of pretty mail this week too :) And two new blog posts. This week I'm waiting on Lumara :) And shared my third review of Furyborn. <3 Hope you are all doing well and staying safe :) I'm just waiting for spring. And for my health to be better.

Animal Crossing. Another lovely platinum points reward via nintendo. A pretty ACNH bag. <3 Love.
The Batman. Ha. Yeah. I bought this just because it's Robert Pattinson :D It do look pretty awesome.

Review: Furyborn by Claire Legrand

At last, I have been brave enough to read Furyborn for the third time. It has been over four years since my first read, three years since my second. And I have still not read Lightbringer. Mostly because of how Kingsbane killed me, and I have not been brave enough to start my re-read until now, ha. I so love these books.

I know I will love the third book too. But oh, I'm beyond nervous. Simply because I adore this story and these characters so much. Will not be reading my older reviews before I write this. I am not able to have those in my mind right now. I haven't read a lot for so long now. And it took me a whole week to re-read this lovely.

But I am so glad that I finally read it again. Because I still love this book the most. It still gives me so much joy to read it. Even all the evil parts, haha. I am not at all sure my heart can handle my re-read of Kingsbane next. It will be hard. I love it so. But the paaain. Gosh. Still. I'm so excited too. Won't be writing such a long review of Furyborn this time. As I'm having trouble finding the right words. My heart is just full of love right now. It makes me so happy that I still love this book so much, all these years later. It is so not always the case. But it have always been so with books by Claire. Sigh. She is my most favorite author. And her books means the most to me. Words are failing me. It was good to read this one again, as I had forgotten so much of it. Not the important parts, but so many small details. All so exciting.

There is so much I could say about this story. Will only share a little. It tells such an epic tale of two girls. Set one thousand years apart. Connected through blood and secrets. I still love Rielle and her story the most. But I so adore Eliana as well. But yeah. Rielle holds my heart a little bit more. Her and Audric. They are from the past, have been best friends since they were little. Along with Ludivine. These three were so good together and I loved it the most. Their friendship was the cutest. I loved getting to know them more.

But the growing romance between Rielle and Audric was the best. And it still makes me so happy. Since it is so pure and adorable. They truly love each other. It's not without issues, though. And that just makes me love it more. Rielle has such an incredible journey to go through. Still dislike her father so much. Ugh. And I truly love her powers. They are dark, could be. But so special. She is one of a kind. A queen of an ancient prophecy. Dark or light. Full of magic and power. And I loved reading about this all so much. Eee.

Then there was Eliana, from the present day. Her relationship with her younger brother, Remy, was still the cutest. Eee. I adore that boy. And I so love Eliana too. She's dark and dangerous. But she do have a heart, buried deep within. I am still so bitter about what happened to Harkan, though, haha. I still feel like they were perfect together and still should have been together. Sigh. I know, it can't be. But I still wished for it. He was such a precious friend and I loved him so. They were the best, for such a short time. Rude.

But Eliana is meant for Simon. I suppose. I did like Simon more, I think. He is still such a mystery. And he does a lot of lying, keeping things hidden. But yeah. His story is dark and sad and I do like it very much. Reading about him and Eliana meeting and spending time together is interesting and exciting. I'm just a little bitter about that too, ha. But oh, how I love their stories. All of them. Navi too, especially. She went through so much heartbreak. Shudders. I liked getting to know them, all over again. Felt like the first time.

There is so much I still wish to say, but I won't. So much happens in this book. Yet much, much more is to come. Reading about the trials that Rielle had to face was so exciting. I had forgotten some details. And reading it again was the best thing. She is so powerful. And a little dangerous. But oh, how thrilling it was to read about everything. Then there are the angels. Corien. I still hate him. And I always will, ha. But that storyline is pretty good too. Just. Oh. The heartbreak to come. So rude. This story was just so good. Sigh.

Furyborn is still such an amazing and thrilling book for me. I still love it the most. The romance between Rielle and Audric still brings me so much joy. Sigh. All the friendships are simply the best. I'm so happy that I finally made myself read it again, so I can at last read book three soon. I am, of course, completely nervous. But I know I will love it. I just know my heart will break a million times first, haha. But it will also be worth it, I know. If you still haven't read these books, you are truly missing out. Read them. Love them.

Waiting on Wednesday #548

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

LUMARA BY MELISSA LANDERS

Goodreads Description:

The answers lie within.

Boarding school student Talia Morris has no idea her boyfriend, Nathaniel, is a Mystic, let alone second in line to the throne of a secretive, aspirational magical community―one no mortal has ever been allowed to step inside. Until now. Nathanial’s cousin is about to be married in the biggest wedding the magical world has ever seen, and Nathaniel is allowed to bring a date. Talia is the lucky recipient of the golden ticket every Mystic wannabe in the world would kill for―only she doesn’t want it. Talia thinks Mystic worship is lame and stupid and unnecessarily aggrandizes people for being born a certain way. When she finds out Nathaniel is “one of them,” she almost jumps ship. But Nathaniel loves her, and she loves him. So when he begs her to give his family and their community a shot, she reluctantly agrees.

Enter the most fantastical world any mortal has ever seen, and the coolest magical wedding ever. After a few days of bonding with Nathaniel’s family on the island, of seeing how beautiful their magic is and how peaceful their community, Talia’s about to be won over―until the entire wedding party suddenly falls into an unexplainable coma and the community goes on lockdown. Talia, the outsider, is pegged as the culprit and has to do everything in her meager non-power to prove her innocence. As she embarks on a journey to find the truth, Talia soon discovers reality is not all it seems, and her past may put her in more danger than she ever imagined.

In this captivating YA fantasy, Talia must solve a multigenerational mystery and break a curse, all the while being torn between making her family proud and regaining the trust of the boy she loves.

HAPPY EASTER :D It has taken me so long, but I have finally started reading a book again, ha :D Yay! Started my re-read of Furyborn. <3 Haven't read too much yet, but reading a little a day and I'm proud of that. I'm also loving it, as always. I just have such trouble wanting to read. Sigh. It's a struggle and I'm not done with it. Rude. But anyway. I have had more outdoor spa baths this week, and I am so happy about it. <3 So glad to finally have it back up again. It just sucks that my health is currently the actual worst and trying to kill me. So my energy is zero and I'm trying my best to just get through the days. It is hard. But I did get some new pop figures, so yay for that :D This week I'm waiting on Spells for Forgetting. <3 Hope you are all doing well and staying safe :) I am so tired, ack.

Waiting on Wednesday #547

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

SPELLS FOR FORGETTING BY ADRIENNE YOUNG

Goodreads Description:

A rural island community steeped in the mystical superstitions of its founders and haunted by an unsolved murder is upended by the return of the suspected killer in this deeply atmospheric novel.

Emery Blackwood’s life was forever changed on the eve of her high school graduation, when the love of her life, August Salt, was accused of murdering her best friend, Lily. Now, she is doing what her teenage self swore she never would: living a quiet existence among the community that fractured her world in two. She’d once longed to run away with August, eager to escape the misty, remote shores of Saiorse Island and chase new dreams; now, she maintains her late mother’s tea shop and cares for her ailing father. But just as the island, rooted in folklore and tradition, begins to show signs of strange happenings, August returns for the first time in fourteen years and unearths the past that no one wants to remember.

August Salt knows he is not welcome on Saiorse, not after the night that changed everything. As a fire raged on at the Salt family orchard, Lily Morgan was found dead in the dark woods, shaking the bedrock of their tight-knit community and branding August a murderer. When he returns to bury his mother’s ashes, he must confront the people who turned their backs on him and face the one wound from the past that has never healed—Emery. But the town has more than one reason to want August gone, and the emergence of deep betrayals and hidden promises that span generations threatens to reveal the truth behind Lily’s death once and for all.

Evocative and compelling, Spells for Forgetting is a vivid exploration of lost love and the unraveling of a small town and its many secrets.
