In My Mailbox #512

Another Saturday. Another week of me not reading anything. Ahh. I am so behind. And I am so bad. I want to read. I really do. Yet I am so lazy and cannot bring myself to start anything. Siigh. But this coming week. I will make myself start reading, at last :) I will force myself, ha. What I have done is taking it easy. Still healing from surgery. Not sure if it's going well or not. Less pain, at least. No blood any longer. My cold is almost gone too, thankfully. So I'm doing better :) I also watched all of Making a Murderer. Which was such a heartbreaking but good series. I cannot believe that they are both still in prison, as they are both so obviously innocent. It makes me angry and so sad. Gah. I hope there will be good news soon. I got a whole bunch of pretty mail this week, eee. Love it all. <3 And today I finally got some new photos taken too, ha :) I so badly miss my spa bath. But needed to wait two weeks. So still a few days left. Rude. I want my hot baths. Hmph. This week I'm waiting on In the Serpent's Wake. <3 Eee. I hope you are all doing good and staying safe :) The world is kind of sucky these days. I'm doing the best I can, though :)

Snowpiercer. I really loved this dark and sad and great movie. So I had to own this new stunning book :D
Animal Crossing. I couldn't help but order this older sticker book too, ha. Love Animal Crossing so much.
Gods & Monsters. I have only read book one, oops, but needed to own this too to read them all one day :)
Pop Figures. Love the Nightmare Before Christmas moment, eee. Finally Pikachu. <3 First Deadpool :D
Alien + Spyro. I had to try this game for my PS5, haha. Hope it's awesome. Did not own Spyro yet. Ack.
Pusheen Clock. Oh. Hahahaha. This was goddamn small. Siiigh. Thought it was a little bit bigger. Oops.
For the Wolf bookplate. Eee. Finally got my gorgeous pre-order gift from Hannah. <3 Thank you so much.
Swag. Thank you so much Kennedy for trading this swag with me. <3 I love the pins and everything else.

I am alive. Somewhat, haha. Surgery went well this past week :) And the pain has been minimal too, which I'm thankful about. Still healing, though, and will for a few weeks. So I'm taking it easy for a while. It seems like the surgery went fine, so I'm feeling hopeful and that it was worth it. Been bleeding a bunch, but getting better too. So yeah. I haven't done much this week. Just healing and relaxing, as much as I can :) Did get a bunch of lovely mail, though, so yay for that. Love it all. This week I'm waiting on Between Shades of Gray: The Graphic Novel :) Hope that you are all doing well and staying safe these days. <3

Waiting on Wednesday #513

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

SHADOW SCHOOL #3: PHANTOMS BY J. A. WHITE

Goodreads Description:

Cordelia’s last year at Shadow School brings readers back for the finale in the spooky middle grade trilogy by J.A. White, the author of the acclaimed Thickety series and Nightbooks. Cordelia must complete her quest to save the world of the living from the ghosts, and dangerous phantoms, who terrorize them.

It’s her final year at Shadow School, and Cordelia Liu isn’t ready to move on. Which is funny, considering helping ghosts “move on” is sort of her thing. But Cordelia can’t bear to give up the rare ability to see and help ghosts.

A field trip brings Cordelia, Benji, and Agnes face-to-face with a dangerous phantom—a ghost capable of reanimating dead animals—and a team of professional ghost hunters that disappear right after they capture the phantom. Cordelia can’t help herself—she needs to know more about the ghost hunters and the phantom.

It’ll mean getting Agnes and Benji to join her and the ghost hunters at a strange village called Shady Rest where ghosts live peacefully in their own homes. But soon, Cordelia, Benji, and Agnes realize that Shady Rest is not quite what it seems. Ghosts are disappearing from their homes. Others start to glow and grow frighteningly long necks and extra teeth. And some of them look strangely familiar. Didn’t they save these ghosts already?

In the creepy conclusion to the Shadow School trilogy, author J. A. White says a final farewell to this unique world of ghosts and phantoms even though some friends—and fiends—never truly leave you.

FEATHER AND FLAME BY LIVIA BLACKBURNE

Goodreads Description:

She brought honor on the battlefield. Now comes a new kind of war...

Following the war that made her a hero, Mulan spends her days training a militia of female warriors to protect their homes and lands. But when Shang arrives in her village with an invitation to the Imperial City from the emperor himself, her relatively peaceful life is upended. Upon her arrival at the palace, the aging emperor decrees that, having proven herself a great leader in battle, Mulan will be his heir and take the throne. Mulan is unsure of this path for her future, but before she can decide whether to accept the responsibility, the emperor unexpectedly dies.

As soon as Mulan accepts the mantle of empress, it becomes clear that not everyone is on her side. Her ministers are working against her behind the scenes, and the Huns sense a weakness in the throne. When one of Mulan’s own militia members comes under suspicion as a traitor, Mulan has no idea whom she can trust. But the Queen’s Council helps Mulan uncover her true destiny. With renewed strength and the wisdom of those that came before her, Mulan will own her power, save her country, and prove once again that, crown or helmet, she was always meant to lead. This fierce reimagining of the girl who became a warrior blends fairy-tale lore and real history—with a Disney twist.

Hardcover, 336 pages
Expected publication: November 9th 2021 by Disney Hyperion
Pre-Order: Book Depository
and Amazon #ad

I'm a little unsure about this book. I like the cover a lot. And I have been a fan of Livia for years :) And I do badly love Mulan too, so this book do seem like it will be pretty awesome. But I'm also kind of finding this summary to be a little.. dull? Oops. But I will still give this book a try :D And badly hoping to love it. <3
