Book Recommendation: The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas

Oh, how I am glad that I decided to re-read The Burning Sky before starting my eARC of The Perilous Sea. <3 Because seriously. This book is amazing. And I had forgotten so much since the first time I read it; last April. And I'm pretty sure I loved it even more this time. If that is even possible. Sigh. These characters have stolen my heart. And the story is so good. And the writing is beautiful. Now I am even more excited to start book two in just a moment. I just know that it will be perfect. Well, I hope :)

I am not sure what to mention about this book. As I want to talk about all of it. But I will not. I won't talk too much about the plot, as I want you all to read it for yourself. Because the plot in this book is stunning. Sure, it reminds me of a lot of books, but it is different. It is better most of the time. It is special. And I loved reading everything about this book. Well, I might have wanted a little bit more romance. But the love in this book. The friendship. The respect. It is done so well and so perfectly.

I loved that this book is told from two different point of views. Titus and Iolanthe. They are both amazing characters. Funny. Kind. Loving. Broken. Loyal. Making mistakes a lot of the time. I couldn't help falling in love with them both. And I loved reading from them both, as I loved them equally. Well. Most likely :D Of course, I loved Titus a tiny bit more, as I found him the most broken and lonely and just. I cannot. He was so perfect to read about. My heart broke all the time. Yet he is strong too.

There is magic in this book. There are mages. And I loved it so much. It is different and fun and just all kinds of amazing. Not all of the book is about magic, though. There is also an all-boys-school; where a lot of time is spent. And I must say that I loved it so much. I loved reading about all the boys. It was fun and interesting. And I loved how Iolanthe had to be disguised. There is no triangle in this book. But there are a little bit of jealousy. Which I, strangely, enjoyed. It wasn't done badly. Which made me happy.

There is just so much in this book. There is so much heartbreak. But also a lot of love. There is little romance, but the little that there is is perfect. So good. So heartbreaking. So perfect. I loved Titus and Iolanthe together. They are amazing friends. And not-friends in the beginning. It was fun and while it broke my heart a little, I actually liked it. Which makes me so happy. Sigh. There are a lot of characters in this book. Many I loved. Many I hated. And I cannot wait to see them all again. Makes me so excited.

I won't say too much more about this book. Just.. I loved when she got turned into a canary the first time. It was perfect. And so heartbreaking. Those scenes.. they were the best in the book, I think. Maybe. I just loved all of it so much. And I cannot wait to read book two. I really, really hope I will love it even more. Pretty please. Sigh. I just cannot wait. Because The Burning Sky was such an amazing book. With awesome characters. With exciting plot. With the best friendship slowly turning to romance.

Also just wanted to say that I read my hardcover of The Burning Sky this time; but I wanted to thank HarperCollins International for the print ARC copy of it that they sent me last year. <3 It is so gorgeous, as it has a different cover that I love just as much as this new cover. So I will always treasure my ARC. As yeah. It is gorgeous and I love it so much. Anyway. I am so happy that I re-read The Burning Sky right now. Because it was just the book I needed. A gorgeous Fantasy story that I love so much. It's perfect.

I was planning on sharing a few quotes from the book in this recommendation of mine. But then when I read the book, all I wanted was to share all the spoilery teasers, lol. So I will not share anything. And I don't think I need to. I think you should all just go read this book because I tell you to, hih. Because The Burning Sky is a beautiful book. It is a perfect book. And I love it to pieces. You all need to read about the story of Titus and Iolanthe. Because it is amazing and fun and heartbreaking. Now, go read it. <3

Update: Newer and better review of the book can be found here.

  1. AH! I'm so glad you loved this just as much the second time Carina! Ooh, and does that mean you're starting The Perilous Sea now? Can't wait for your review! :D

You're so right. The canary scenes are, hands down, the best.

  2. Yay for books that you can love as much the second time as you did the first!
I really need to read this one soon!
Thanks for the great review/recommendation again sweetie!

  3. Loved this too. Hope I get to read the sequel.

  4. I haven't read this book yet (waiting for the sequel to release so I can read them back to back) but your review has me so excited! I love a good fantasy world and it's really cool that the author uses some of her historical romance roots as well with the London setting. I also skimmed your review for the second book and I'm so happy there isn't a love triangle. :D

  5. I might have to do a reread! Hopefully I can fit it in to my schedule! I've only read this one once and it deserves to be read much more than that. I loved it so much.
