In My Mailbox #782

Happy Halloween :D Hope you are all having a great day. <3 I don't do anything for Halloween, but I have a bunch of scary and cute decorations up for all of October, haha :) And tomorrow I will be decorating for Christmas, ahhh :D I am so very excited, eee. <3 I love my Christmas stuff the very most. Sigh. It makes me happy :) Though this week have been a goddamn pain. Started tidying my attic to get my Christmas stuff down, so I have less to do tomorrow. Did not realize how very much I had to do then all week long -.- It was exhausting and I am feeling dead. Not done yet, but making progress :) I finally started reading a book yesterday, and I read so much, and managed to finish it today. And a five star :D Eeee. Made me so happy. And today I had my final spa bath of the season, aw. And took it down for winter. Sigh. So rude. It will be forever to wait until April to get it up again. But also kind of happy to have it down now, so I now can start bathing in my bathtub again, haha. It is less stress, though much warmer, as outside at least I have air for my head. Ack. Anyway. I got my Labubu cats this week, eee :D Waiting on much more, oops. But first set arrived, and goddamn. They are the cutest things ever. I love them to death. Anyway. Written way too much now; started with my review, which ended up being so very long too. Oops. After I get all of Christmas ready, I will finally watch things again, ha :) This week I'm waiting on The Traitor Game. <3 And I shared my review of Reliquary :D Hope you are all doing well. <3 When do you decorate for Christmas?

The Sixth Faction. Whoops, another edition. This time the UK hardcover edition, haha :) Still gorgeous.
Victorious. Been forever and ever since I read Vicious; around when it came out. Will re-read one day :)
The Blood Queen. I have yet to read book one, but adore these authors, so I had to own book two too.
Up From the Ashes. I so love Sharon and her books. I'm so excited to read her newest historical story :D
Funko Pop. Stitch in bath :D This is so cute. So happy I got picked in the drawing to buy it; adorable. <3
Switch 2 Game. Minecraft :D New edition. My nephew loves this game. My switch one always had issues.
EOS Lipbalms. Only empty boxes, ha :D Already opened them; bought from Amazon, a few of the newest ones, eee. So glad they shipped to Norway. I do not have all the new ones, but some. Love them so. <3

Pop Mart. EEEE! My kitties are here :D Oh my gosh. I am SO HAPPY WITH THEM :D Ahhh. The cutest things I have ever seen. Labubu cats. Most precious. So so so so soft and fluffy. Full of mini beads. They are truly perfection. I also bought a second set, hahaha. I cannot wait to get them as well. Just. Purrrrfect.

Review: Reliquary by Hannah F. Whitten

I had a hope that I would love this book, as I adore Hannah and her books, and this looked creepy. But I didn't know that I would love it as much as I did. And I am so very happy about it. I could not stop reading once I started it. It got too exciting and stressful and I just enjoyed it to pieces. Five stars for this incredible book.

I'm not sure where to begin, honestly. It is an adult story, with the main girl being twenty-seven years old. It's told from the point of view of Claire, whom I liked a whole lot. Though I do not usually like books set in our world, and this was set two years ago, I did not mind in this one. As this story takes place on a small island.

Which made it feel more fantasy at times, less real world. Plus the sea monster, of course. Which was honestly very awesome. But first, this book is all about Claire. Her boyfriend of five years just died suddenly. And it is destroying her a little. I did not like all the drinking she did for a few days, but also didn't blame her either. During the first days after his death, we get to know their relationship a bit. And I honestly did not really like Elias much at all. Hmph. And I was kind of happy that he was dead. Oops. Sure, Claire was happy with him. But it was not a great relationship at all. She just wanted to belong, to have a family, after she lost hers at thirteen. Then she gets an invitation from his mother, to come to their private family island, to get to know them.

Elias had no contact with his family. But Claire wants to belong so badly and so she is all kinds of excited to get to know this family she has not yet met. Which is where this book truly begins, once Claire arrives at the island. I'm honestly not sure how to describe this book. I do not want to share too much about it. It is also only three hundred pages long, and I felt like reading it went by so fast. Probably because I was so invested in the story and so very stressed about it all, ha. Which I enjoyed very much. It made me happy.

But it was all kinds of disgusting at times. And scary and creepy and gruesome. Yet I loved every moment of it. It was not completely perfect, but it was just perfect enough. And I truly loved this story. Things start feeling weird the moment Claire arrives at the home of the family of her dead boyfriend. Well, it felt weird to me. Claire was mostly just happy to be there. His mother, Audrey, was so kind and sweet towards her. The others as well. It was such a huge house on the island, going down and down deep under the ocean.

Which was all kinds of creepy. And Claire did not like it very much either, as she had big trauma from her childhood. I very much loved getting to know more about what happened to her when she was thirteen. It took a while before we got to know everything, but it was such a sad yet great story. The family was not very big, they were just six adults, and then the brother of Elias, Ash. And he did not want her to be there at all. They very much seemed to hate each other at first. Yet had some fun angry banter between them.

This book only takes place during four days, somewhat. Which went by so very quickly. There is so much that I want to share. But going to just write a tiny bit about the plot, so this review of mine will not be that long. Spoiler: it got long. It is a story about Claire spending time with the family, getting to know them all. Getting to know this creepy looking house they live in. And slowly realizing that something is very wrong at this place. That there is a reason for why Ash is trying to make her leave, even when she wants to stay.

I just want to share all the spoilers, haha. But not going to. But oh, this book was exciting and scary and I loved it so much. This family is not normal. They are so very rich and it did not come for free. And Claire is not there for a regular visit. I loved getting to know the monster in this story. It was creepy. It was scary. And so very amazing to read about. I felt like this book reminded me a lot about the movie, Ready or Not. It's one of my most favorite ones. And the reminders were all good. This story was honestly just exciting.

I'm not sure what else to share about Reliquary. It was such an incredible story. A story about a monster. A story about a woman learning to care about herself again. I loved how Claire changed, how she started to see herself differently. While also trying her hardest to survive. There were some scenes in this book that were disgusting and awful. And I loved it so, ha. A true horror story. There was no romance, though, which was a bit depressing. Yet I shipped Claire and Ash the most. They would have been perfect. Sigh.

One thing I wish had been different was the ending. Even though it was all kinds of incredible and I loved it so, so very much. It was epic. I just wanted a few more chapters, ha. I wanted to know more. I wanted a little bit more at the end. Felt like it ended a bit too soon. How rude. Yet it was such a great ending. Sigh. This horror story left me feeling happy, even though it was pretty gruesome. I must confess that I peeked a bunch before starting this. But that just made me love it even more. And it still surprised me all the time.

I'm honestly so glad that I read this book. It made me so happy. Even though it made me so very stressed most of the time. I so enjoyed reading about Claire. I loved getting to know her better and to get to know Ash as well. I adored him so. I liked Theo as well, somewhat. The others I didn't like very much at all. The ending was truly amazing and thrilling to read. This book was very much for me. The ocean scenes were scary. I loved it. Do read this book too. And I so wish Hannah will write more like it. Also a sequel, please.

In My Mailbox #781

Meh. Unsure what to say about this week, haha :) I have not managed to start reading yet. Aw. But will have to read this book before the end of the month, so must start it in the next few days. Fingers crossed I can manage that. Just feel like I have no time and no extra energy. Ack. But trying my best. Had some great times out this week with my family, eat lots of delicious food. <3 Also had too much stomach pain. Ouch. Tried to be without my pain pill that I have taken since August, as I did not like all of the dreams it gives me. Hmph. But got the most intense pain in my shoulder again some days without. So I have now started it again, and pain is better, and I'm sleeping so much better too. Definitely works as a sleeping pill for me. Though the intense dreams are back again. How rude. I got less mail this week, still spent more money than any other week. Ha. So many Pokemon cards. But gods, it's giving me so much joy. <3 Love the feeling of excitement it gives me :) Hope I can buy more soon. Though my money is saying no. Ha :) Still have my spa bath up, eee. But it needs to be taken down next week for winter. Aw. We just have not gotten it cold yet, which is the best. But it will get here in early November. Brrr. Though it has been cold wind for the past days. So bathing less than I should. Rude. So very excited to decorate for Christmas right after Halloween, eee. This week I'm waiting on Heiress of Storms :) Hope you are all doing well. <3

Moomintroll. New Switch game :D Had to get the exclusive box with all the goodies. Love it so much. <3
The Sixth Faction. International paperback edition. <3 Looking gorgeous. Will have to read this one day :)
Sports Resort. New game for my Switch 2, eee :D I am very excited to give this game a try; it looks great.
Pokemon. Yeah. A bunch of booster bundles. Ahhh. New store in town got a large stock this week, ha :D And it was possible to buy several. So I went there three times. Oops. Spent way too much on pokemon cards now. Gosh. Yet I love it so very much, eee. Sold a few. Missing just 7 regulars to be complete. <3

Hmm. I am unsure about this second book. I so adore this author. She's awesome. But I sadly did not love book one. Yet I am curious about what happens next; as it had an evil cliffhanger. Funko Pop. I couldn't help but finally place another large order, ahh. <3 Could not risk that Coraline would sell out :) I so love them. And a bunch of others, ha. Loving the Barbie ones. And the Disney princesses. Instead of buying a full set of Kpop Demon Hunters again, I bought Jinu from a seller instead. I'm happy :)

Fifteen Years of Blogging

My blog is 15 years old today :D Ahh! Time have moved so fast. Does not feel like it has been that many years since I started reading. I'm still not reading as much as I want to, I am just not well enough yet. But I still read every month, and I'm trying my best. I still love reading the very most. As when I finally manage to start a book, I absolutely love the feeling it gives me. Just waiting to be able to feel well enough to read much more often. I still buy way too many books and pop figures and pop mart items. Oops. My Labubu collection is the biggest and I am loving it the very most. Makes me so very happy, eee. About the photos shared at the end. Still take photos of the northern lights at all times. Love it. My cat is now thirteen years old and she is the most precious. Adore my sister's dog. Mokoko is just the most beautiful Labubu. Just. Oh. Buying these plushes have been a big part of my year. Then my most treasured books for years. So happy to own these. Then another photo of my girl. For the next year, I hope to finally read lots more :)

This past year has been both amazing and also not the greatest. Still no vacation for me, though we went on a one-day road trip in August, which was so lovely. Hope to manage to do the same next year. Hoping to win some money, so I can go on a longer and sunnier vacation. Fingers crossed. This year I managed to get my most wanted book from two publishers in different countries. And that meant the entire world to me. Feeling so thankful and so very happy. And at the same time, I have been so very sad this year. I got kicked off the funko nordic ambassador team, which I had been a part of for six years. And it truly hurt my heart. I'm still a bit broken about it. But trying to let it go. I still have things that make me happy. But yeah, being a part of that group meant so much to me. Sigh. I'm still reading, but way too little. I am still playing pokemon go daily on my three users, while also going on daily walks. I still play my animal crossing new horizons every day too, and now pokemon pokopia as well. Love it so very much. My games are the best.

When it comes to my health, it has not been going very well at all. I walked daily on my treadmill for 410 days. Then I decided to stop and sell it. And I am so glad I did so. As I did not go down anything in weight and it did not make me feel better either. Been weeks without it now, and I'm still feeling the same. Tested out several new medicines this year, and they did not work well at all. Now trying another new one, and it has been going so badly. But I'm hopeful that it will work better soon. Crossing my fingers. Been way too exhausted and hurting this past year. Very rude. Had psoriasis cuts all the time. Shudders. That is better with the new medicine, though. I have been having a bunch of spa baths outside this year, and it is still the very best. Did not have summer, though, which was the worst. Barely any warm days. Way too few sunny days. And now it is already snowing. Brrr. Not ready for winter at all. Hmph. I'm still taking outdoor photos for instagram and posting daily. Still blogging. Will not be quitting. Thank you for following me. <3

In My Mailbox #779

Brrr. We had the first snow of the winter this week. How rude. And it's so cold. Ahh. I hope it will get a little warmer again, though, as I do not want to have to take down my spa bath this coming week. Aw. Hope I can have it up a little longer. Fingers crossed. This week have been pain, though. Have not had enough energy to read anything new yet; but will start a book in the next days sometime. I had another hospital visit this week, second dose of the new medicine. Was an easier full day away, as the hospital part went faster this time. But still a full day and still exhausting. Especially when the plane got delayed for ages. Ugh. Anyway. Went fine to get more medicine :) But I am not feeling any better at all. Still have intense stomach pain often, though a little less. Still headaches, but also a bit less. Still hurt everywhere, though. But trying my best :) And hoping to feel better soon. Fingers crossed. Taking medicine at home in about four weeks, and no more hospital trips for ages, thankfully. Though I so loved going shopping with my mom and eating different and good food and going to their very warm and nice swimming pool. Which my town doesn't have. Hmph. Got a bit too much mail, and bought a bit too many pokemon cards. Oops. But it makes me so very happy, eee. <3 Been trying to tidy a bit more this week. Not going the best. Ha. I'm too exhausted. But, I managed to look through a bunch of my fairyloot books, and ended up with 38 that I have put up for sale. Ahhh. Hope to sell them all; already sold 2 :) Took forever and ever to decide that I did not want to read them, and then to take photos, and put them up for sale here in Norway. Ack. But have been meaning to do so for ages. Though I so love how gorgeous fairyloot books are. But there were way too many love triangles. And they are just not for me. I kept a few books, but trying to sell more than I'm keeping. Oops. Yet I'm still getting the YA and Adult duo each month. Sigh. Anyway. Writing way too much. So time to stop, ha :) Also, my wrists are killing me now. Ouch. But I had too much to say this week, oops. <3 This week I'm waiting on A Bittersweet Spell :D Hope that you are all doing well lately. <3

Mockingjay: Illustrated Edition. Book three. <3 Will peek at this one soon; looks gorgeous. But damaged.
The Sixth Faction. First of many copies, haha :D I love Veronica and I loved Divergent with all my heart.
New Moon. Ohhh. New collector's edition :D Excited to open and look at how gorgeous it looks inside. <3
Better in Black. US paperback edition. <3 I know, so far behind on Cassie's books. But own all editions :)
Dead Beat. UK paperback edition :D Also looking gorgeous. Really hope to get to read this series soon.
The Vanished Sister. Oh, how I loved the first books in this series. So far behind. Must read them soon :D
Plushes. A bunch of different plushes this week. Oops. Three new Bukowski from the airport. Eee. Love them so very much. Two Jellycat ordered; finally got the bathrobe Bartholomew. <3 And a cute Ty shark.
Pokemon. Oh, help. I spent way too much money this week. Yet so awesome. Brought me way too much joy, haha :) Got a bunch of great cards. <3 Trying to sell a few :) Love my Pikachu's the most. Need more.
Diverse. One popmart mystery Skullpanda figure; not my favorite, but cute. Got one more Sonny Angel while in hospital town, one that can hang :) A cuter one, so love this elephant. And eee. I finally found that gorgeous Monsters Inc. pop figure while away too :D Yesss. Been looking for it for ages. It is so adorable.

Waiting on Wednesday #781

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

ECHOES ACROSS THE WATER BY LIVIA BLACKBURNE

Goodreads Description:

In the aftermath of the Chinese Civil War, two girls, one in Mao’s China and one in Kuomintang-ruled Taiwan, find their lives intertwined.

It’s 1958 in Mao’s China and eleven-year-old Shan is an outcast, facing constant persecution because her parents fought against the communist troops during the revolution and then fled. With no access to education and few prospects for the future, she wonders if she and her grandparents will forever be marked as traitors.

Nine-year-old Lihui has lived in Taiwan all her life, but she knows it’s not home. The adults in her life constantly remind her that they’re only staying until the Nationalist armies can take China back from the communists. But those lofty plans seem distant compared to the day-to-day of school, homework, and her parents’ financial struggles. When Lihui has visions transporting her to Shan’s world, the girls find their lives inexplicably intertwined, opening up a doorway and a lifeline neither expected to find.

Spanning the Taiwan Strait and a poignant moment in history, this deeply researched, emotionally resonant novel offers a rare glimpse into the long aftershocks of war. Told in alternating voices and laced with magical realism, it is a story about sisterhood, memory, and the small everyday rebellions that can change everything.

Format: 256 pages, Hardcover
Expected Publication: May 11, 2027 by Nancy Paulsen Books
Pre-Order: Blackwells and Amazon US and Amazon UK

Eee, new middle grade from Livia :D And much longer than her recent picture books. Which makes me so happy. I think it looks so gorgeous. It sounds so thrilling and magical. And sad. Can't wait to read :)
What are you waiting for on this magical Wednesday?

In My Mailbox #778

Ugh. This week have been the actual worst. Yet I am trying my best. I managed to go outside in the forest and take photos for instagram three times this week; and now officially done taking photos outside for this year, eee. <3 So so happy to be so far ahead :) Missing December photos, but those will be in front of my Christmas tree, as always. But yeah. This week actually sucked. And I'm so, so very exhausted. Oh. The medicine I got last week have made everything so much worse. Well, my psoriasis is all gone, but that is the only positive thing. I have had such bad headaches. And my stomach is truly killing me. I have the worst pain pretty much all day long. Oh. It hurts so very much. My stomach have not been this bad for years; not since I was ages without medicine. And now I tried a new one, and am so much worse. The rudest. Sigh. Will try taking it up with the hospital next week for my second dose. Sigh. So yeah. I'm tired. So very tired of hurting all the time. Ouch. Also just been playing games on aliexpress on my phone all week long, haha :) Just hope to be without pain soon. Hmph. Anyway. Some lovely mail this week. <3 This week I'm waiting on A Bittersweet Spell. <3 Hope you are doing well :) Did you get anything good?

Tempest. Waterstones signed edition :D Had to get this one too, haha. I'm hoping to love this book lots.
Dead Beat. UK edition of this beauty :D I really need to start book one soon; just need the energy for it :)
City of Heavenly Fire. Newest UK special edition of the Shadowhunter books. Of course getting them all.
A Theory of Dreaming. New UK paperback of this one :) I did not fully love this sequel, but enjoyed it. <3
Zootopia 2. Zootropolis here in Norway, though :) I have yet to see this one, though, ack. But will do soon.
Bomberman. New Switch game :D I remember playing this on my computer back in the day. Excited for it.
Pop Mart. Whoops. Yeah. I may have ordered a bit too much from popmart lately, haha. <3 Yet not nearly enough. I want to get mystery boxes all the time. Sigh. It's just so much fun to open :D Though I never get the ones I want most. Uuugh. Typical, haha :D I got two Pucky forest plushes. Did not get my mushroom. Aw. Or the pink bird. But these two were great as well; so love the pink one. Got one more Twinkle farm; finally got a cute one, eee :D I so love this wolf. My favorite, I think. Not buying more. Then I got a spooky Labubu purse; cute. Tried for a bracelet, wanted a Labubu, got a weird one instead. But still cute :) Then got one of the new spooky figures. And got one of my least favorites. Sigh. Hope to order more soon :)

Waiting on Wednesday #780

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

A BITTERSWEET SPELL BY REBECCA ROSS

Goodreads Description:

A cursed manuscript. An old betrayal. A second chance at love. Magic, secrets, and longing collide in this sweeping, beautiful fantasy from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals.

Lorne St. Clair has spent years hiding from his shadowy past, content to curate magical antiques in his quiet shoppe. But when a mysterious note arrives demanding he transcribe an enchanted manuscript—written in an ink only rare mages can read—his carefully guarded secrets are threatened. Refuse, and the truth about his past will be exposed.

Lorne knows one mage capable of reading the manuscript... But Avalene Vale was declared dead ten years ago.

In truth, she’s been hiding on the kingdom’s outskirts, her once-brilliant academic future stolen the night Lorne put a knife to her throat and begged her to flee. When he finds her again, asking for her help, Avalene knows she shouldn’t trust him. But enchanted manuscripts are impossibly rare, and once she begins translating, she’s drawn into the manuscript’s haunting magic—and the beautiful, dangerous story woven into its spells.

As buried truths resurface and the past tightens its hold, Lorne and Avalene must reckon with what they once were—and what they might become. What unfolds is a multi-layered, enchanting tale of glittering magic, powerful books, passionate love—and the fragile hope of second chances.

I loved the Divine Rivals duology so, so much. It meant so much to me. I have yet to read the book that came after those two, though. But soon. And of course I am excited about this new story too :D It looks gorgeous. And sounds exciting. The romance sounds painful, sobs. But also hoping it will be precious. <3

In My Mailbox #777

Meh. This week have been way too exhausting. Started it with a hospital visit on Tuesday, to get a new medicine. It was the longest day and it was too painful. But a good time away with my sister. <3 Which was nice. But five hours at the hospital was way too long. Ugh. Was positive about the new medicine. But I am not any longer. My stomach have had the worst goddamn pain I have had in yeeears since I got this medicine this week. It was supposed to get better. Not worse. Ahh. And so very bad at the moment. I am not happy about it. Hmph. Only plus side, my psoriasis seems to be better already, fingers crossed that it lasts, though. I have had several spa baths outside this week, which is the best. I'm not looking forward to having to take it down next month sometime. Aw. Hoping for late October. Got a bunch of mail this week. Gosh. Way too much. But so much amazing. <3 Anyway. I am exhausted. My fingers are so much better, better than they have been in months and months. But stomach is worse than it have been in years. Ha. It just goddamn sucks. So yeah. I'm tired of it. Sobs. So now I have to buy a new set to be sure that I get him. Sigh. Hope to be able to sell my doubles. Ack.
Diverse. A bunch of different things that I bought on my hospital town trip. Got my first Sonny Angels :D They are so cute. Of course, got the ones I wanted least in both packs, hahaha. Oh, well. Bad luck. Sigh. Tried another damn Stranger Things. Another double. Ugh. Got a popmart Labubu magnet; it's so cute. And that I could not resist. Got another Rumi chase pop. Oops. But then I got half my money back because of a shipping issue, ha, so I am very happy. <3 Then got two Hirono items. Love the bat plush :D It's adorable. The magnet was not my favorite, but cute.
Pokemon. I did not know I wanted the new trading cards. But then I kept seeing photos. And so I needed them. Ahh. And was lucky to see the release at a local shop in my town, and got one box. <3 I love my cards :) But now I want more. That is going to end up being way too expensive. Sigh. Not buying yet :)

Review: Monster, Monarch, Maiden by Rae Carson

This book started off pretty great for me. I found the story to be exciting and I liked the characters a lot. But then I started having some issues. And I just could not ignore them. And so this book ends up being a three star for me. I have too many thoughts to share about it. Some not so positive, but some good things too.

As there were parts of this book that I loved. Then there were parts that I did not. Even so, there was nothing about this book that I hated. Which is always positive. And so, three stars, as it ended up being in the middle for me. I so wish it had been more. But the book was simply just not enough for me, I'm sorry to say.

I'm going to start my review by writing down all the things that I liked about this book, before I share the things I didn't. The book is told from the point of view of seventeen-year-old Bria. She and her family owns an inn in the mountains, having worked at it their whole lives. But this book begins with Bria being a prisoner. For three weeks she has been stuck in a small cage. This is the part I liked most about this book, honestly. The beginning. It was dark and depressing and just so good. It was so sad too. As it begins with Bria being almost dead, stuck in a cart next to her sister, who was dead. Bria does not think she will live much longer. Until a stranger shows up on the road. And somehow ends up killing all of the enslavers and rescuing Bria. Though the rest of the prisoners died, as their enslavers would not let anyone go free.

And so our story begins. With Bria being days away from her home, stuck in the middle of the mountains. And her deciding that she needs to stay close to the person who rescued her. A boy named Titus. It takes forever before we finally learns that he is just eighteen-years-old. But he did not seem much older either, once Bria got to know him. He did try to leave her behind, but she caught up quick. As she did not think she could survive on her own, having been without food for so long. He agreed to help her get to others.

One of the parts that I really liked about this book were the horses. Titus had a great one. And Bria ended up with a cute one she named Apple. I liked how they took care of them. I liked the beginning of this book the most. When it was just Titus and Bria for a long time. He is on a very secret quest. And Bria is unsure if she should go back home, as she saw her dad die and is sure her mom is dead too and the inn burned down. And so she ends up going with Titus further up the mountain to join him on his dangerous mission.

That was a part that confused me a bit, to be honest. How she decided to be his shield maiden. To swear to protect him and to anything for him. They were a bit too young for that, I thought. But I guess it was a way for them to stay together. What I liked most about the beginning of the book was how it was just the two of them. And how there were monsters in the mountains. I liked the mistwraiths. Wish there had been more of them, to be honest. We get to see an ice cat too. Which I fount to be pretty exciting to read about.

I'm already writing too much about this book. And yet not nearly enough about the actual story. It is about Bria and Titus being on an adventure, of sorts, because he was visited by a god. It was a little weird. And so they have to travel all over this world. And from the moment they left the mountains, it got a bit boring. I did not care much for all the travelling. Or the people they met, honestly. I liked the sea creature, though it was over too soon. And was a bit depressing too. They were both pretty much always filthy. Shudders.

I'm trying to think of what else to say that I liked about this book. I did like reading about Bria and Titus. I liked their story. But I had so many issues with it too. Oh. But I never hated this book, so a three star fits best. Though it could have been lower, to be honest. But the beginning of the book was a four star. Then it just went down. I really liked the ending of this book, though. That was more exciting and sad and just done really well. I liked how it ended and how slow it was. But it needed more pages at the end as well.

My biggest issue with this book was the writing. I simply could not stand it. I did not fully hate it, of course, but I did not like it one bit. I had hoped that I would grow to ignore it, at least, but no. Every time I picked the book up again, I wanted to put it back down because I got so annoyed at the way it was written. Sigh. But the story was enought to get me to continue reading. But yes. The writing. It was not for me. It was highly annoying. Unsure how to describe it. Felt more like telling, not showing. And I never got used to it.

Because of that, I had issues connecting to the characters. I liked them a whole bunch. But I did not love them. I did not swoon over the romance, that was not really there. As it took over four hundred pages for them to kiss. Yeah. And all we got were two kisses, written badly. It hurt my heart. I wanted the swoony romance. But it was just not there. Only Bria telling us she likes him. And her thinking he loves her back, because someone told her so. And she can see all his thoughts on his face. Yeah. Yet no real chemistry.

The whole point of the book is that Bria ends up becoming the shield maiden of Titus. And gods, I disliked that name so very much. I cannot help it. It annoyed me every time it came up. Which was often. And him being her liege. Just, yeah. The words were just not for me. It seemed silly. There was an argument in the middle of the book. Were Titus walked away for a moment, without saying anything. And Bria overacted so much, saying he was cruel to her. I did not get it. It became such a big deal and it just felt weird to me.

I also have to mention the world this book is set in. There is too little information about everything. Sure, the book tries to give us small moments of details. But it was not enough. There were two moons, with so weird names. There was a whole bunch of gods, doing nothing, I suppose. There were magical creatures that were evil. I loved those. But there was too little of them. Sigh. I wanted more danger. One sentence near the end of the book bothered me the most. Those juicy tears. Just. What even is that. It took me out.

What bothered me the most, I think, was that there was no map in this book. I do not get it. Because Bria and Titus travels for weeks and weeks in this story. Going all over their world. And there definitely should have been a map, as all the travelling drove me crazy. Ack. I also wish the cover had been done better. Aw. It's not that awful, but I do not like it. Wishing there had been pretty chapter artwork. Okay, so. This book could have been so gorgeous looking. Makes me sad that the publisher did not make a better effort.

While writing about this story, I was reminded about one part that made no sense to me. Why Bria's inn got raided. It was never really explained. And not why she was stuck for three weeks in the mountains, going in circles while captured. It was a loose thread. Bothered me. I really liked the plot about Titus and the ice cat. But it was not done well enough at all. There was too little about it. I wanted so much more. Sigh. It was an excellent part of the story, though, I just wish there had been more focus, more details.

I'm unsure what this book is. The summary keeps calling it a romance. But it's very much a young adult story, at least. And very little romance. Fully a fantasy story, though. But I only liked the first part of it. The rest grew too boring and too slow. I wanted more monsters. I wanted more romance. I just feel a little bit disappointed with this book. I wanted it to be more. I did enjoy it. And I am glad that I read it. But wishing that I loved Monster, Monarch, Maiden more. But I will always read books by Rae. And you should too.

Editing my review to add another part, as I suddenly remembered that I completely forgot to mention the magic part of this story. Every person gets a magic gift when they are old enough, usually early teens, I suppose. The gifts are so many and so different. They are mostly kept secret from others. Bria is able to make things freezing cold. and Titus has two royal gifts, which I thought was awesome. I liked Bria's gift too. And learning more about what gifts others had too. Wish there was more of it. A favorite part of mine.
