Review: We Could Be Magic by Marissa Meyer

This story was every kind of magical. I knew it would be, but did not know that I would love it as much as I did. I just found it to be all kinds of perfect. Five stars for this precious graphic novel. I only wish it had been longer. I so loved reading about Tabi and James and all of the others at Sommerland. Magical.

The writing in this book was so good, as always, with Marissa and her books. And it had so much of it as well, which I really loved. Made me connect more with the story. And the artwork was fully perfect. So beautifully done and just stunning. I loved it all so. Tabitha looked gorgeous. Everything looked magical.

I'm not going to write such a long review of this one. As it was a shorter book, and there is not too much that I want to share about the plot. So just sharing a few small things that I loved. This book tells the story of Tabi. She grew up believing in true love and loving a place called Sommerland. This reminded me very much of Disney, with different princesses and characters and all of the magic. And I would have loved to be able to visit Sommerland. It seemed like such a fantastic place. Sommerland was a theme park made around movies and their characters and stories. Tabi had always wanted to work there. And now she finally could, for a summer program. There were several characters in this book that I so loved. Tabi most and also James.

At first I did not like her roommate, Kyra, at all. She was just rude. But then she grew on me and I ended up adoring her as well. All Tabi wants to work as is a princess, a royalty. It has been her big dream since she was little. But first she has to do a regular job, as do everyone who arrive there. She gets assigned a job at a nacho stand. Which seemed all kinds of awful, haha. But Tabi grew to like it and she did her job well. Then there were auditions for character actors. Tabi didn't know the dance. And so she failed at first.

Which was heartbreaking. This precious girl deserved to have all her dreams come true. I loved reading about her. But then she practiced and got better, to try it again later. She worked at the nacho place for about a month. Then she tried again for a character role. She did not get to be a princess. But the most beloved animal costume instead. Which was awesome, but bittersweet, as it was not what she wanted. But she never stopped dreaming. And I loved that. The cat costume was all kinds of adorable. I loved it.

This is a book that shows you should always follow your dreams. That you should not give up, even if the chances are small. Tabi always believed she could play a princess in Sommerland. Even though she was fat, and the princesses in this park were not. But she was beautiful. And confident, most of the time. And I loved that she was fat. Like me. I am a little smaller. Still. She was amazing to read about and I loved her so much. This book was a bit sad at times, as some people were rude. But it was happy most of the time.

Now I have already written more about this book that I should have. Not sharing more about the plot. Just that I adored it. I loved how things changed for Tabi over time. I loved how she and James got closer, and how there was a small romance. I wanted more, as always, haha. But it was precious. And I thought the ending of this book was just perfect. I wish it had been even longer. But it all also ended really well. This book just made me happy. It was truly a magical story about a girl following her dreams. I just loved Tabi.

We Could Be Magic is illustrated by Joelle Murray. And she did such an incredible job. I loved the art style in this graphic novel so very much. Everything was beautiful. The characters were fully adorable. All the background was lovely too. I'm so happy with how stunning this book looked. Made me love it even more. And it had lots of writing as well, which I loved so much. My only complaint is that it ended too soon, ha. I would very much have loved even more of this place and these people. It was just such a precious book.

I truly loved this graphic novel with all of my heart. It was special and sweet and a little sad at times. Yet hopeful and romantic too. It is a book about not giving up on your dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem. About being happy about all the little things as well. We Could Be Magic was such a magical story and I loved every moment of it. I have loved Marissa and her books for so many years now. I can't wait to read more by her. You should all read this book. I loved Tabi and her magical journey very much.
