In My Mailbox #90

I want to start by saying sorry for not blogging that much. It's just that I have not been able to read at all. I want to read, and I have so many books that I'm excited about. But I just haven't had the energy to do so. Been really sick for a while now because of my diseases, and I just got my medicine. So I'm hoping it will get better. We'll see. So I'm hoping I'll be able to read again soon :) Hoping to start re-reading Stormdancer soon. <3 Then Kinslayer :) Anyway. Even though I don't post any reviews these days, I still post at least twice a week. Waiting on Wednesday and In My Mailbox. Won't ever stop doing those :) And this week I did get some interesting things and books. <3 What did you get this week?

Waiting on Wednesday #92

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

THE UNBOUND (The Archived #2) BY VICTORIA SCHWAB

Goodreads Description:

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she's struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn't easy -- not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she's really safe.

Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She's sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she'll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?

With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.

Hardcover, 384 pages

Review: The Real Boy by Anne Ursu

I love pretty books. And when I saw the cover for The Real Boy I knew I had to read this book. So I requested it via Edelweiss, and I was so happy to get accepted for. I have now read it, and I'm glad I did. It's an amazing middle grade book. The story is so good and I loved the main character, Oscar. He was adorable.

I'm rating this book a four star. Because while it was totally amazing after about half the book, I did struggle a bit with it in the beginning. But still. It was awesome. And I enjoyed it much more than the author's other book. Just thought this one was so good. It's full of magic and cuteness and also so heartbreaking.

The Real Boy is told from the point of view of eleven year old Oscar. Whom I just adored. He's a bit different from other kids, though. And it broke my heart. Yet I loved him so much for it. Though I do wish I had gotten a better answer by the end of the book. Still. He's adorable. He's kind, well, the kindest he knows how to be. He says some stupid things, but he doesn't know any better. And yeah. He's just so cute. And he has these adorable kittens! Loved reading about all of them. Too many to name them all. Which I just loved. They were all different and all so lovely and cuddly and sweet. Sigh. Need to cuddle my cat :) Anyway. I loved Oscar.

There is an interesting plot in this book. One I loved. At the beginning I had a few issues with how everything was described, but that got better. I ended up enjoying the writing. Not perfect, hence the four star. But good enough and it kept me interested in the book and the characters. This book is set in a world of magic. Well, only just a town of magic, and not too much magic either. There were lots many years ago. But then something happened, and now there is just a little. Loved reading about it :D

We meet a lot of characters in this book. Oscar is the hand of a magician. Meaning he lives in the basement of his shop, doing things for him. Mixing a lot of sort of potions. I felt sorry for Oscar a whole lot. But, he didn't have it too bad. Except for Wolf, who also lived there. He was awful. Shudders. But I sort of liked Caleb, the magician. For the most part. He was a bit weird. And he could have taken better care of Oscar. Sniffs. But still. I did enjoyed reading about Oscar's life and the people in it. So much.

We also meet this girl, Callie. And oh, I loved her. She's kind and brave and all kinds of amazing. She's a great friend. And a good healer and person. I enjoyed reading about her a lot. We also see some other people, some who were pretty amazing. And others not so amazing. But I did enjoy reading about all of them. Anyway. There is a story in this book. But I won't spoil it. Just know that it is amazing and sort of fun but also a bit scary. And so heartbreaking. Lots of sad, heartbreaking stuff. I loved every moment.

Someone told me they thought this was a pinocchio book by looking at the cover and title. I didn't get it at first. They I read the book. And it makes so much sense, in a creepy way. Nothing like pinocchio, but sort of the same. I loved it. I don't really want to say anything else about this book. The plot is amazing. The characters perfect. It is a great middle grade book. One that I feel that everyone should read when it comes out in September. So yeah. Go buy it! Then read it and cry a bit like I did. Sobs. <3 Love.

Thank you so much to the publisher Walden Pond Press and to Edelweiss for the chance to read and review The Real Boy early. <3 So glad that I did. Will be getting my pre-ordered hardcover for sure :)

In My Mailbox #89

Today I will start a book. I will. A bit later, that is :) I only read one book this week, and I started it last Saturday. And it was a one star. Sigh. I wish to read an amazing book. Anyway. I didn't get too many things this week, but I love it all. <3 I'm only waiting on a handful of packages. But yeah. I also have a bunch of pre-orders, which I'm hoping will be available soon ;p What did you get this week?

City of Bones. A whole bunch of City of Bones books because of the movie coming out soon :) I love all of them. And I just had to get them all, hih. Movie Companion. Paperback. Book of Quotes. Postcards :D They are all amazing. And I'm really excited for the movie coming out in August :)
Shadow of the Mark. Still haven't read book one, but now I have both books :) Pretty covers.
The Unwanteds: Island of Silence. Gorgeous paperback! I adore this middle grade series so much.
Spirited Away. Isn't this an awesome t-shirt? Sigh. Qwertee are the best. I have so many pretty ones :D

I GOT ACCEPTED/INVITED TO READ KINSLAYER :D Ahhh. SO excited for it! Although, like always, I have peeked (A) and I'm sure it will break my heart. Yet I cannot wait. Hoping to re-read Stormdancer pretty soon so that I can read Kinslayer. <3 Thank you to Cassandra and NetGalley :)

Cover Reveal: The Nightmare Dilemma by Mindee Arnett

Today I'm sharing the gorgeous cover of The Nightmare Dilemma. It's the sequel to The Nightmare Affair, which I really loved. I'm dying to get to see more of Dusty and Eli. <3 Hoping for some amazing romance too, hih (A) Anyway. I'm just loving this cover! Doesn't it just look amazing? I cannot wait to read it. Wish it was out a lot sooner than March 4th 2014, though :) What do you think of it?

The second in a thrilling new fantastical mystery series

Dusty Everhart might be able to predict the future through the dreams of her crush, Eli Booker, but that doesn’t make her life even remotely easy. When one of her mermaid friends is viciously assaulted and left for dead, and the school’s jokester, Lance Rathbone, is accused of the crime, Dusty’s as shocked as everybody else. Lance needs Dusty to prove his innocence by finding the real attacker, but that’s easier asked than done. Eli’s dreams are no help, more nightmares than prophecies.

To make matters worse, Dusty’s ex-boyfriend has just been acquitted of conspiracy and is now back at school, reminding Dusty of why she fell for him in the first place. The Magi Senate needs Dusty to get close to him, to discover his real motives. But this order infuriates Eli, who has started his own campaign for Dusty’s heart.

As Dusty takes on both cases, she begins to suspect they’re connected to something bigger. And there’s something very wrong with Eli’s dreams, signs that point to a darker plot than they could have ever imagined.
