Top Ten Tuesday #24

Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2015

1. Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman.
I can't begin to say how much I adored this book. It is oh so special to me. The writing is perfection. And it is told in such a special and different way. I adored every page. I loved Kady and Ezra so much. I can't wait to re-read it.

2. The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas.
I adored all three books in this trilogy oh so much. But this third one was my favorite, I think. It was so stunning. And heartbreaking. I adore the romance between Titus and Iolanthe. It's the sweetest. This final book was perfection.

3. Fairest by Marissa Meyer.
This book cannot not be mentioned on my best books read. Because it is stunning. I loved getting to know Levana more, though I ended up loving her. Ugh. It is not going to end well. These books by Marissa are the very best.

4. A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab.
I was surprised by how much I loved this book. I couldn't have loved it any more. It was so perfect. Full of magic. And such stunning characters to read about. I adored the writing. And I loved the world. I can't wait to read more.

5. The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski.
Yes, this book broke my heart, but I also loved it to pieces. Kestrel and Arin are amazing. I just want them to be together. Sobs. But yeah, this book is amazing. I love this world so much. That ending is the very best. Loved it.

6. Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson.
This book was so special. And I am beyond thrilled that I loved it so much. The writing is beautiful. The plot is amazing to read about. I just adored the whole journey. And I loved the main character, Lee, so much. She's amazing.

7. Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman.
I adored this sequel and final book. Waited so long for it, and to me the wait was well worth it. The story is so epic and amazing to read about. I adored Phina so much and I loved getting to know her more. This book was amazing.

8. The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows.
This precious had to be included. Because I loved this book a whole lot. Wil is the best character to read about. She's fierce. And I adored the romance so much. Sigh. And the plot. So good. That ending was evil. And the best one.

9. The Uninvited by Cat Winters.
I loved this one oh so much. I adore Cat. And her books are amazing. This was my favorite of hers. The plot is stunning. The characters are amazing. The twist surprised me oh so much. The romance is perfection. Loved it so.

10. All the Rage by Courtney Summers.
This is one of the best books I have read. It is heartbreaking. And it made me so angry. But it was also so beautiful and real and honest and I adored it. The writing is so so beautiful. The characters are all amazing to read about.

I haven't done a Top Ten Tuesday in forever. Almost two years now since the last time. But today I really felt like doing it, so will see if I do it more times too :) Really wanted to share the top ten books I have read so far this year. But, well, I have only gotten to read 50 books so far this year. Which is just so depressing. But I haven't been in the mood to read, as my health has been awful this year. But I have read some amazing books, so sharing a bit about them :D I'm not counting re-reads. Best of those were the His Dark Materials trilogy. <3 Plus many more. Loved all of these. What is on your list this week? <3

Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly meme held by The Broke and the Bookish :)

~

Kai scooped his hair off his brow, staring at the holograph that floated above the conference table with a mixture of horror and awe. Part of him wanted to laugh. Not at all because it was funny, but because there didn't seem to be any better reaction. The holograph showed the planet Earth. And all around it were hundreds of small yellow lights, many clumped above Earth's most-populated cities. Hundreds of tiny spaceships. They were surrounded.

~

Things are not going well for Earth in this book. I love how Kai tries to fix it all.

Huge thank you to Marissa Meyer and Macmillan Kids for letting me share these gorgeous Cress Tuesday teasers with you all. <3 They are the bestest. Thank you so much. I hope you are all loving the teasers :D I know that I am loving finding them and sharing them with you all. If you haven’t yet read Cress, I hope these teasers are making you more excited about it. <3 I’m sharing all these teasers from my stunning hardcover of Cress. Well, from one of my copies. Cover Reveal: Down With the Shine by Kate Karyus Quinn

I cannot wait to read this book. And I adore this cover so much :D And oh my gosh, have you read that amazing summary? This book sounds awesome. I think I will love it. Because I loved another book by Kate, (Don't You) Forget About Me. It was pretty amazing :) And I think Down With the Shine might be even better. <3 And weird. And awesome. I simply cannot wait to read it. And oh, I think the cover is stunning. <3 I love it. It isn't possible to pre-order this book just yet, but soon, I hope. <3 Have added the links below to where it will show up, sometime. But ahh, yeah. This book isn't out until April 26th. Which is forever away. Sobs. Wishing I could read it now. <3 Anyway. I simply can't wait to read this book. It will be amazing. Really hoping for a romance in it too, hih :D What do you think of the cover?

There's a reason they say "be careful what you wish for." Just ask the girl who wished to be thinner and ended up smaller than Thumbelina, or the boy who asked for "balls of steel" and got them-literally. And never wish for your party to go on forever. Not unless you want your guests to be struck down by debilitating pain if they try to leave.

These are things Lennie only learns when it's too late-after she brings some of her uncles' moonshine to a party and toasts to dozens of wishes, including a big wish of her own: to bring back her best friend, Dylan, who was abducted and murdered six months ago.

Lennie didn't mean to cause so much chaos. She always thought her uncles' moonshine toast was just a tradition. And when they talked about carrying on their "important family legacy," she thought they meant good old-fashioned bootlegging.

As it turns out, they meant granting wishes. And Lennie has just granted more in one night than her uncles would grant in a year.

Now she has to find a way to undo the damage. But once granted, a wish can't be unmade...

In My Mailbox #191

I read two books this week. Which I'm pretty happy about. Still heartbroken about not getting the Six of Crows package. Sigh. But this week I did get some other amazing mail, and I couldn't be happier about it all. <3 Love knowing such amazing people. But yeah. This week was supposed to be happy. I removed my stitches this monday. Which hurt like hell. But then, of course, instead of healing like it should, I have gotten a wound on my wound. It looks bad. And I cannot go swimming yet. And it hurts my heart so much and I'm so sad. For once I just wanted something to go right. I mean, I finally got to do that awful surgery. I removed my stitches. It was supposed to heal. But it didn't. And oh, I'm so depressed about it. Sigh. But anyway. Other than all of that, I did have a good week. I saw San Andreas :D Which I loved. And I finally got to see Jurassic World, which I also loved to pieces. <3 Though not watching 3D movies at the cinema anymore; it sucks :p This week I posted a bunch of blog posts. Cover Reveal: The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine

Eeeek. I cannot wait to read this book :D This cover is stunning. Perfection. I adore it. I simply cannot wait to see it in person. <3 This book is going to be amazing. It looks incredible. What do you think of the cover?

Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She’ll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman…and bring her Lorelai’s heart.

But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn’t going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

Review: The Last Good Day of the Year by Jessica Warman

I have been meaning to read this book for a few months now, ever since Bloomsbury was so kind to accept my request to review it on Netgalley. But then I peeked at the book. And I saw some bad things about the romance. So I put it off. And then my hardcover arrived. I put it off. But now I wanted to try it.

And I'm so pleased that I did. Because I ended up really liking this book. It was a fast read. The writing is pretty awesome. A few things bothered me, but I really liked the story a whole lot. Which is why I'm giving this book four stars. It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty amazing and I found it to be an exciting book.

I wanted to read The Last Good Day of the Year because I found the cover to be creepy. And I loved the summary. I do like stories like this one, though they are all kinds of sad and heartbreaking. But then, like I said, I peeked. And I worried that the romance would make me hate the book. But now I finally wanted to give it a try. And I'm so thrilled that I did. It was a lot more awesome than I thought it would be. The writing is stunning. It annoyed me a few times, and I saw a few things that were wrong, but it didn't bother me that much. For the most part it was awesome. I didn't approve of the romance, but it is not a big part.

I'm not going to write such a long review for this book. Because it is short; less than three hundred pages. And there isn't that much happening. And I don't want to spoil anything. Though I will talk about this one thing that bothered me a bit, that is a big spoiling. But nothing too big. Anyway. I'm just so glad that I read this book. Though the writing was a bit weird, with Samantha sort of telling a story about things that have happened in the past and now in the present. It was weird, but I grew to like it a lot.

I will not share much about what this book is about. But it is about Samantha and her family, trying to deal with her little sister getting kidnapped ten years ago. She has not been found. A man was put in jail for kidnapping her, but he claims he didn't do it. It happened when Turtle was four years old, and Sam and Remy was seven. I loved reading about it. It was heartbreaking. And scary. And I loved it oh so much. It was exciting. Though not that exciting, as it was a bit slowly written, but still amazing to read.

Samantha is telling about so many things that has happened. A lot of things that happened before Turtle was taken, and the day she was taken, and the days after. Sam also has another sister that is ten years older than her. I loved reading about her. Though I hated how much her own parents hate her. It broke my heart. I just wish this book had been longer, because I wanted to know more. I need to know more about everything and everyone. And ugh, I really wish this book had not ended. I wasn't done reading it.

This book is exciting yet slow. I loved trying to figure out who took Turtle. How it happened. Though I was a bit disappointed, as I wanted her body to be found. It hasn't been. It hurts. But I loved knowing who did it. Though the punishment was not nearly enough. It made me a bit angry. Sigh. Yet it was written pretty awesome, even so. And this is all I'm going to say about the plot. It is heartbreaking. And awesome. And I liked reading it a whole lot. I'm so happy that I liked this book so much. It was great.

Then there is that romance thingy I didn't like. Sam used to be best friends with Remy. Then she moved away. Now, ten years later, he has a girlfriend. Sam has no one, though she had a sort of ex. I can't figure out if she had sex with him or not. It bothered me not knowing, lol. Then Remy breaks up with his girl. And he and Sam starts kissing and such. Wishing the romance had been more focused. It is so little. And I wanted a bit more friendship after those ten years. Sigh. Yet I still pretty much adored it.

But there was that other boy. Ugh. Noah, that Sam had been with months before. She met him once more, after she started seeing Remy. And she was attracted to Noah. And she kissed him, once, short. But yeah. It bothered me a lot. Sigh. But what bothered me the most is that that was the last we saw of the romance. What happened next? Did she ever see Noah again? Is she together with Remy or not? I wanted to know, and I'm a bit pissed that I did not get to know for sure, hah. But not too bothered :)

Anyway. I just wanted to share some of my thoughts about this book. I thought that The Last Good Day of the Year was a stunning book. It was exciting and heartbreaking and I loved reading every moment of it. I only wish it had been longer. It was so real and evil and sad and I loved it oh so much. Thank you so much to Bloomsbury for letting me read this book via Netgalley. <3 So sorry for taking this long to read it. I read my gorgeous hardcover. And I'm so glad I finally did so. I think you should all read this one.

There will also be amazing sneak peeks inside this one. And I simply cannot wait to read them all. Ugh. And I'm sure the cover will look stunning too :D The not-final one is perfect looking. Anyway. "I have seen evidence that the disease is mutating," said Dr. Erland, "and that Lunars may no longer be immune. At least, not all of us." Her skin began to crawl. It was amazing how fast the old fears returned. After weeks of being invincible in the face of one of Earth's most merciless killers, the threat was back. Her immunity could be compromised. And she was in Africa, where it had all started.

~

Shudders. Yeah. I'm worried about this disease too.

Review: Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson

I wish I could say that I loved this book. As I have seen some people I adore having loved it already. I got this book many months back, but was nervous about reading it, since I had one some peeking. Then heard good things. So I was finally ready to read it. But oh, I'm just so disappointed. This book tricked me.

I'm deciding to give Rebel Mechanics two stars. I wish it could have been higher. But I really did not enjoy this book at all. I think that the plot could have been amazing. And I did like reading about what happened, most of the time. But it wasn't done well enough. Because I didn't care for the girl. Not one bit.

This book is told from the point of view of Verity. Whom is seventeen in the book, but summary says sixteen, so I'm not sure how old she is. No matter her age, though, in my eyes she was way too young to get a job as a governess. That part was silly to me. She was also supposed to be smart, and have read many books and such. But I found her to be silly often and just really dumb. She didn't see all the obvious things. But I didn't hate this girl. And I did like reading about Verity sometimes. I just didn't like or love her. She wasn't a character that I will remember at all. Which is just all kinds of depressing. Really did want to love her.

But my biggest issue with this book was the writing. I had so many issues with it. It wasn't good. Not for me. I felt nothing for the characters. I didn't care much for the plot. And the writing just annoyed me so much. I can't describe it, but yeah. I just did not like reading this book. I wish I had, because I really wanted to enjoy it. And it is so heartbreaking to not love books that you want to. Especially when it is a hardcover you have gotten from the publisher. Sigh. But that's how it was this time. Not a book for me.

I'm not sure how to describe the plot in this one. Verity gets to work for Lord Henry and his family. He is twenty-something. He cares for his dead brother's three children. I sort of liked reading about the kids. But they weren't that special either, and I grew bored. Sigh. But then there was Henry, whom I actually loved. Hence the two star. He was an interesting character. But he is not in this book a lot. He is not a love interest. He is just not written about enough. Which annoyed me, as he was what I liked about it.

Anyway. Back to the plot. In this alternate world there is magic, though only some people have it. Others are lesser than them. So there is a small rebellion. Which makes machines. Just, ugh. It was a bit boring to me. And not exciting at all. I feel like the plot could have been better, but to me it wasn't good at all. Then there was the part where Verity is half-magic or whatever. What was even the point of that? Nothing is done about it, so it was quite boring to read about. She was supposed to be special though.

See, Verity meets these people in this book. The rebels. She becomes their spy, and it was so silly and boring and I didn't like reading about it at all. Just, why? Why would she spy for them? I didn't see any connection between her and the rebels at all. I saw no friendship. No almost love. I saw nothing about it at all. Ugh. It bothered me. Then there was that boy, Alec. The romance. Gosh damn it was silly. It was probably supposed to be all romantic. But it was done so badly. He was not an interesting person at all.

I turned to look at him, and when my eyes met his, I forgot everything else: my recent near miss, Lizzie, the park. All I saw was his green eyes boring into my soul. From the way he looked at me, I guessed he'd been struck the same way. We were frozen together in that moment.

See the above quote. That was their first meeting. Which still makes me laugh inside. Seriously. It was so silly and cheesy and not in a good way. Especially since I had peeked ahead, and knew how it would end. Such a silly book and such an annoying romance thingy. Didn't get why she cared for him. They did nothing together. They didn't talk together. I knew nothing about Alec. Hmph. Well, he liked machines, obviously. That was it. So yeah. I didn't even enjoy the romance that was supposed to be in this one.

I have already talked too much about this book. Just, I was so disappointed in it. I didn't like the story. I didn't like the characters. It could have been good, had Henry been the love interest. But he wasn't. And this book wasn't good. I didn't like the writing. Sigh. But I do see that others might love it. Well, maybe. Unfortunately, I was not one of them. Huge huge huge thank you, though, to Macmillan Kids for sending me this gorgeous ARC copy for review a while back. <3 You guys are amazing. I adore you. Thank you.

In My Mailbox #190

I'm heartbroken this week. Because such amazing people are getting that very special ARC box of Six of Crows. And it is breaking my heart. Because I did not get the email about it. So I am not getting it. And I cannot even begin to tell you how much I NEED this box and this ARC. I have loved Leigh since before Shadow and Bone officially published. I have loved all her books and short stories. I have toooooons of her books. I need this. Ugh. So yeah. I'm a tiny bit heartbroken about it, because I'm not getting it, and I'm so jealous, and I need it, and yeah. Trying to not think about it :) But anyway. This week besides all that have actually been pretty good. Healing is going slowly. Removing stitches on monday. It still hurts to sit in some ways, so I haven't been able to see Jurassic World yet. Sigh. But I did re-watch the Jurassic Park movies this week :) Which I have seen so many times, heh. But lots of love. I also got so so much amazing mail this week. Ugh. I cannot. There are so many kind people out there. <3 Thank you all so much. I love you all. So happy with everything I got and everything I bought. But oh. I still haven't read anything. Cover Reveal: Ravenous by MarcyKate Connolly

I'm so so so excited about this book :D MarcyKate is amazing. So kind and sweet. And I adored her first book, Monstrous. But it was so evil and heartbreaking too. Sobs. Yet so perfect. Sigh. Such a stunning middle grade book :D I'm so excited that she's publishing another one! This one isn't a sequel to Monstrous, but it takes place in the same world, and have a character that was in the first book :) Which is all kinds of awesome. But anyway. The cover. Gosh damn. This cover is stunning. I love it. I cannot wait to own it :D But oh, I need the print ARC so badly. My collection cries for it. <3 Can't wait to see this book in person. It will be so beautiful. And eeek, that summary is awesome too :D I simply can't wait to read Ravenous. It sounds and looks amazing. Can't wait for February 9th. <3 What do you think?

A witch has come to the city of Bryre. She travels in a hut that has chicken feet, and is ravenous for children. And once she gets what she desires, she never lets it go.

But when the witch captures Hans, Greta’s little brother, Greta refuses to let her have him. The two strike up a bargain. Greta will retrieve something the witch desires in exchange for her brother’s freedom.

To get the prize Greta must travel to Belladoma—a city where she was once held captive—which brings back terrible memories. With the help of a new friend, Dalen, a magical half-boy and half-horse, Greta embarks on the journey and tries to overcome both foes and her own weaknesses.

For fans of Monstrous and new readers alike comes the story of an epic quest and a heroine who will stop at nothing to save the one she loves most.

Supernatural

I haven't read anything for ages now. And the reason for that is because I have been busy watching Supernatural from season 1 until the end of season 10. And it has been the most fun I have had in a long time. My gosh. I adore this show. I love Dean. I sort of love-hate Sam. I adore their brother relationship. I adore Castiel so much. I'm a huge shipper of Dean and Castiel. I have even grown to love Crowley. I'm pissed about what happened to Kevin and to Bobby. Makes me angry. Yet it was perfect. Gosh damn, this show is amazing. I'm not going to talk about it much, just wanted to share with you all that I have now watched all the episodes. And it was perfection. And just, you all need to watch this show right now.

I had seen some of Supernatural before. I had seen all of season 5 and maybe season 4 ages ago. But then I stopped watching. I had seen a few episodes before those seasons. But not many. I knew I would love this show. I just needed the time to watch it all. And now I had. And oh. It was so much fun. I have loved every episode. Some were a bit boring, yet always amazing. And the music. Damn. I love Carry On My Wayward Son now. It is what I look forward to at the end of every season, lol. But then the musical episode happened in this latest season. And oh my god. I cannot stop listening to those three songs from itunes. I very much recommend getting them. So amazing. So beautiful. So real. Yeah. Love them.

Anyway. I just wanted to let you all know that you need to watch Supernatural. And you need to watch it right now. Dean is amazing. Castiel is amazing. Sam is amazing. The plot is exciting and scary. The monsters are shown well. There is nothing about this show that I do not love. So yeah. Go watch it right now. <3 Then come back and let me know what you think. Any of you seen it yet? Anyone else shipping Destiel? :D It is the ship I want to happen the very most in everything. Ugh. Just, they are perfection.

Okay, fine, they aren't a couple or anything like that. Just the bestest friends. But I very much see it becoming more. So that is my biggest wish from this show. Supernatural is my new obsession. And I need everything from it. Seriously. Everything. But I don't know where to buy it. Ugh. Just ordered the Clue game from B&N, a bit expensive, but I wanted it. And working on buying the Pop! figures too. They are so cute. But hard to find them without them being too expensive. Anyway. I just finished season 10. But sister wants to see all the episodes too. So shortly I will start watching from season 1 once more :)
