Review: My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal

I knew that I needed to read this book when I saw that gorgeous cover. And I found the summary to be pretty awesome as well. So I was very happy when I got it in the mail from Macmillan Kids. <3 And today I finally wanted to start reading it. And I'm not sure how to feel. I loved it. But I hated a few parts. The book made me so sad and heartbroken. Yet also happy.

I didn't think this book would make me feel so much. But I'm glad that it did. Because it was an amazing book. I really loved the writing. It was awesome. And I fell in love with the book right away. I knew I needed to know what happened next. It is told from the point of view of Cassidy; whom I adored. But yes. She just died. But she do not know how she died or why.

So this book is about figuring that out. Because Cassidy has lost her memories of the last few weeks, kind of, and the night of her death. I loved seeing how she dealed with waking up from death, to figuring out that no one could see her. Or hear her. It was heartbreaking. Yet so amazing. I loved reading about it. We don't get to know that much about Cassidy. But I liked her. Though I hated this one thing she did. I didn't understand how she could do something like that. It was just.. mean. And heartbreaking and just not very nice. Sigh. But this book is still a four star for me. Because I really, truly enjoyed it. But agh. It never should have ended, lol. But I did like the ending. I just.. I wish it hadn't been so sad and fast.

I haven't decided yet what I should mention in my review. So I will start by talking a little about the characters. Ethan. Cassidy's boyfriend of three years. I loved reading about him. He was so sweet and kind and lovely and just the best. Heartbreak. I loved him so much. Wishing there had been more of him, hih. There is this plot twist in this book. I won't mention it. But it is a big deal. And it is both amazing and so sad. I loved it. But yeah. I felt so bad for Ethan. Sniffs. It was just not fair. Agh.

I did enjoy reading about Cassidy's relationship with her best friends. I liked Aimee a lot. She was amazing to read about. Keep in mind that all we know about these characters is from Cassidy sneaking around after her death, trying to figure out what happened to her, lol. But I loved that. We also get to see some past things as well. That was awesome. Anyway. Aimee. She was such an amazing friend. I loved her a lot. But Madison. I liked her too. At first. Then that changed. Did not like her much.

There are a lot of characters in this book. Mica. Drew. I did not like them. But liked reading about them. I loved reading about Cassidy's sister. She was adorable and so sad and agh. I want to know more about her as well. Sigh. Anyway. Then there is Caleb. And holy. I hated him. I'm sorry, but I did. I can't believe. Agh. Spoiler warning! There is cheating in this book. Cassidy is meeting up with him in secret for three weeks and kissing with him. How? I don't know. Ethan was so amazing. Sob. Breaks my heart a lot.

But yes. Even though that happened. We also see how much Cassidy loves Ethan. And he loves her. But a lot of this book is spent lying. Not telling the truth. Which broke my heart even more. Agh. I want people to be honest. But I'm still rating this a four star. Because I enjoyed the mystery. I enjoyed the hunt, sort of. I enjoyed reading about Cassidy and Ethan. Even though I wanted a bit more. Sniffs. Why did she have to die? Agh. Not sure I should read books like this, lol. Never a happy ending. Sigh.

Anyway. There is just so much in this book. And I'm not going to say more. Just that there were a lot of surprises. And I'm so glad that I read My Last Kiss. Because it was an excellent book. It was interesting and heartbreaking and full of feelings. I loved it. But yess. Wishing the ending was different. Sniffs. But anyway. This was an awesome book and I need you all to read it when it comes out in June. Huge thank you to Ksenia at Macmillan Kids for this gorgeous ARC copy. <3 Will be buying a hardcover as well :)

  4. So glad to hear you enjoyed this book, despite the heartbreak and the cheating and everything in it.
This is one I'm not ready for with my emotional turmoil, so I'll have to pass on it for a while at least.
    Great review, Carina!

  7. Gorgeous, gorgeous cover <3 I read a book once that was sort of similar in that, the girl comes back as a ghost and can't remember how she died. I remember really enjoying that aspect of it so this sounds like something I might enjoy. I don't like that she was cheating on her really sweet boyfriend though =( That makes me angry and I'll probably hate her for it, haha. Great review Carina!!

  8. I totally forgot to mention her sister in my review. She was so sweet. I enjoyed this book too though it was heartbreaking. I though Neal did a really great job with this book and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
