Book Recommendation: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

It's been about a year since I first read this book. I loved it then. And now that I finally got the sequel, I needed to re-read this amazing book. And I loved it so much, still. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is a special book. It's a bit unique, but also kind of normal, in a way. The writing is a bit weird for me, because I have this thing about writing, but I did love the difference between the writing in this book and in other books. I did enjoy it too. The plot is amazing. Truly amazing. And the characters is perfect.

I say they are perfect, but mostly they are perfectly flawed. And that's even better. I like my characters that way :) I'm unsure what genre this book is. Fantasy? Paranormal? Maybe it's both. Some pretty awesome things happen in it. Some not normal things. But they also happen in a normal world, with normal people. And I loved that. It's unique and it's amazing. It's done really well. And I enjoyed it very much. The story is just perfect. I won't spoil anything. Just some of the hotness of Noah ;)

I can't really talk much about the plot. Even though I think it would be impossible for me to really spoil what happens, since it's really complicated. But anyway. This book is about Mara Dyer. Who is pretty amazing, if I do say so. She has just been in an accident; which killed her best friend, her asshole boyfriend and his sister. But she wasn't hurt. She can't remember anything that happened at all. This book centers around her and what happened that night. It is a perfect mystery.

While The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is pretty long, 450 pages, it's a very easy read in a way. I read one hundred pages in one hour. That's pretty awesome, I think :) I'm glad this was a long book, though. Because there is so much happening at all times. And everything needed to happen. Just wished it had been longer. But that's what sequels are for ;) This book has it all. Mystery. Suspense. Scary parts. Sexy parts. A pretty hot romance. Some action scenes. Alligators. It really is amazing.

I'm not sure what else I can say about the plot. We get to know what really happened at the night of the accident. And it's horrible and perfect all at once. It's so exciting to read about; to experience it along with Mara. And Noah. This book isn't all mystery, though. We get to know Mara a lot. And her family. And people she goes to school with. It's all very good. Sigh. I'm not sure what else to say about this story ;) Just that it's perfect and mysterious and it never ends. It's so incredible.

The main character, Mara, is amazing. I loved her. She's snarky; which I don't really enjoy much, but I loved it about her. She's kind and loving. She's protective of those she loves. She also has a pretty perfect family. Okay, they are a bit screwed up about some things, but I loved that about them all. Mara believes she's crazy. And in most of the book I almost believed so too. It's hard to see what's real and what's not real. But on my third read of this book it was a lot easier to know it all ;) lol.

I adore Mara's family. Joseph. Daniel. And her mom and dad. Okay, I didn't really love her mom a lot. She annoyed me. But people say she's better in the sequel :) Joseph, Mara's 12 year old brother, was amazing. He was just adorable. Didn't get to see him too much, but I loved him :) He felt younger, though. And Daniel. I liked Daniel. Perfect older brother ;p I don't have any brothers so I don't know what it's like. But yeah. Mara's brothers seemed amazing, and I would have loved to have them :)

Then there is Noah Shaw. The love interest in this book. He truly is perfect. And broken. With daddy issues. lol. He was amazing. Extremely hot, flirty, and so kind and loving. He's kind of a man-whore. Well, okay, maybe not really, since lots seems to be rumors. But I did love that about him. Because Noah deserves to be wanted. And loved. He truly does. He's just the kindest. Well, to those he likes ;) There is a lot of sexual tension in this book. And no kissing for almost 400 pages. That sucked. But I still loved it a whole lot. Hoping it will be resolved in book two ;) But doubting it. Oh, well. Book three then :D

Mara also has a best friend, that she gets in school. Jamie. I adored him. He said some silly stuff, but I did like that about him ;p He's a great gay best friend. Hoping there is lots more of him in the next book. There must be. Because Mara and Jamie's friendship was really sweet. A lot of this book is in school. Normally I hate that. But I did enjoy it in this book :) Hated this on teacher; Morales. Kind of loved what happened to her. But also not really. Was a bit awful. But also exciting, and that's important.

There is some other characters in this book. Some I loved. Some I hated. We also get to learn a bit about Mara's friends that died. Like her best friend Rachel. She seemed so amazing. And I'm so sad that Mara lost her. But oh. I hated Mara's asshole boyfriend; Jude, and his sister Claire. They were not nice people. But I also enjoyed reading about them, if that makes any sense at all. But still. The character I liked the most was Noah. He's just perfect. And mysterious. Dying to get to know more about him :)

Some small things that I really ought to share with you all. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer ends with a horrible cliffhanger. A big one. Awful one. But if you still haven't read it, book two is now out, so you have nothing to fear :) Something I love. The covers. The cover for Unbecoming is perfect. It's gorgeous. And it also fits with the book. The cover for Evolution is a bit heartbreaking. But also so damn pretty. And I'm pretty sure it will fit with the book, in a scary way.. I guess we'll see ;)

There isn't really anything else I can say about this book. The writing is pretty awesome, the story is beyond amazing. The characters are all loveable. The romance is amazing. Need more of that. Now dying to read the sequel; which I will start tomorrow :) Worried about it. But also not, since I know some things already ;p Mostly just excited. I recommend you to read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer because it is amazing. It truly is. And it is a book that I want everyone to read. So, yeah, do that :)
