Review: Wildefire by Karsten Knight

This book had the potential to be amazing. I'm very sad that it ended up disappointing me. I wanted it to be good, and at first it was. Although there were some things I didn't like even in the first few pages. But the story seemed interesting, and the writing was really good. That is one thing I liked in this book. The writing. Because it was good, it was just the rest that wasn't any good. At least, not to me.

I don't know how to write my review of this book. Because right now I'm not having any positive thoughts at all :\ But then. It is probably just the way I felt about this book. I'm sorry for it, but it's just the way it is. There is something I cannot stand while reading, and some things I just do not like. And Wildefire had lots of those. Although it was mostly just me not liking it.

The book starts out good enough. I liked the writing right away. But I didn't agree with how the main girl, Ashline, was acting. How she was as a person. Because to me she never seemed "real." And I didn't feel anything for her or with her. Which really sucked. The book starts with her punching a girl. And I sort of liked it, but it all seemed so silly and I just didn't enjoy it at all.

Then we get to see Ashline's sister; Eve. And she was even more confusing. Didn't think she seemed real either. They just acted so weird, and talked so weird, and I just could not fall in love with it. But even though I didn't like the characters, I did find them interesting to read about. They had some interesting facts about them, and I did like it. A bit.

But then we got to know so many characters and it started to confuse me. And then the plot started happening. And the plot could have been amazing, but I found it to be sort of silly. And I do like silly, I just didn't in this book. The plot didn't make sense to me. It confused me a whole lot most of the time, as well. And, well, it would have been better if they had been older than 16.

Then there was the romance. Or lack of romance. There wasn't any. I guess it was supposed to be, but it didn't feel real. And I didn't feel anything at all. First of all, we don't learn ANYTHING about the love interest; Colt. And we barely see him. And suddenly they are kissing, and Ash is ready to have sex with him, which was not beliveable at all. It was just.. weird.

I wish the romance had been better. But it wasn't. Then that ending happened, and it wasn't really good at all. And then I read the summary for book two, and I am once again hating a book I have not read. "Love triangle." You see. Don't make sense. And I hate it already :p But! I am going to read the sequel. At least peek at the ending and such.

Back to the story. I didn't think the story was believeable or written very well. Then there were the badly written characters. I mean, they could have been awesome. And others probably think they are. I just didn't. First, Ash is swearing all the time, calling everyone for a bitch. No one does that. I haven't heard of anyone who talks like that. And I am a teen. It was all just really silly.

The book sort of reminded me of The Harbinger with the plot and the school thing. But then, it wasn't anything alike and I liked The Harbinger much better. The sisters reminded me of Imaginary Girls, but not really because they didn't act like sisters at all. And. Sigh. I'm just being negative, ain't I? Oh well. Sorry for that, but I didn't really like this book. And I wished to share my feelings about it.

I'm sure there are many more things about this book I disliked. But then I would go on forever, and I'm sure no one is even reading this anymore :p Oh, well. This book could be worth reading, if you like a weird plot and don't mind badly written characters :) It is sort of good. Just not for me. Also; all the chapters ended with a cliffhanger. And then, in the next chapter, it starts off the next day! And we never learned what happened next. And that sucked very much. Didn't like that.

I think I'm giving this book a 2,5 star. A two star seems too little, but a three star also seems like too much, in a way. I did like this book, but only I little. I had a lot of trouble reading it.

  2. While reading this one I was very conflicted as well. I didn't really feel connected with the story in the beginning but by the end I oddly found myself crying as certain events happened. I figured in the end if I had that much emotion about it then I had developed a slow connection along the way, one even I wasn't fully aware of until the very end. I am excited for the next book in this series.

Sorry that this story just didn't work for you, thank you for the great review though. :)

  3. I haven't read this and I probably won't rush out to grab it. It sounds like it could be a frustrating read what with the lack of connection with the main character and the unbelievable romance. It's a shame this wasn't better but thanks for the honest review! :)

  5. I'm not sure what I expected from Wildefire...I saw the rave reviews, but I still wasn't completely convinced. The premise sounded a little been there, done that to me. Wow, was I wrong. I discovered from page 1 that this book was something different. Wildefire is something awesome.
