Review: The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell

I loved this book. I really, really did. I wasn't supposed to read anything today; because of the ache in my arms. But I hadn't been able to stop thinking about this book. And I just needed to pick it up and start reading it. And I do not regret it even though my arms tells me differently. The Vespertine is an quick read book, but it is really great. A bit hard to read, but I loved it all.

The book is set in 1889, and it was a tiny bit confusing. But not by much. I understood mostly everything that was happening; and I liked it all. There was so many rules back then. I never would have been able to live at that time, I think o.O Too much rules and too much things to do and not to do.

This book is about Amelia. She lives in a small town with her brother and his wife; but she is getting of age so it's time to marry her off. Sort of. So Amelia is sent to stay with her cousin; Zora. And I enjoyed that a lot. It was nice to see Amelia arriving in a new place. A much bigger place than she is used to. And I enjoyed the people she were living with.

Amelia is an amazing character. She is just normal, at first. Very kind and loving and sweet. But then she has a vision; and it turns out to come true. And then everyone wants to have their future read by her. I don't want to give too much away, but I found it to be very exciting and interesting what she could do and how she did it :)

Then there was Zora. She isn't much like the other young ladies in that time. She is a bit of a rebel. But oh, I loved that about her. She and Amelia are great as friends, and I loved that as well. Zora is a sweet girl and she is very kind. She has a crush on Thomas, and I liked that a lot. But also hated it at times.

They have some other friends as well. Like Sarah and Mattie. And I did not like Sarah at all. She seemed so.. cruel, at times. But I did enjoy reading about Mattie :) She was sweet. But even though I didn't like Sarah much, I hated what happened to her near the end. It was horrible. And cruel. But also really great to read about; because it made the story more amazing.

Then there were Nathaniel. He is adorable. But he isn't a suitable match for Amelia. Not wedding-material. But that doesn't stop her for falling for him. And it doesn't stop him either. And omg. I loved the romance in this book. It was just so sweet and awesome and so good. Nathaniel is a mystery. But he is so kind and sweet, and I loved what we learned of him.

The plot in this book is just as good as the setting and the characters. I loved the story in this book. It is unique, and exciting and so damn good. I just loved it all. Don't want to spoil it since the book is so short :D Just know it is amazing. But it is also horrible and cruel. But written so well. Then there is the ending. I liked it, but I'm a bit mad that it wasn't any longer. Really wished it was.

Also, by the end of The Vespertine I didn't like any of the characters. They were all mean and cruel. Except for Amelia and Nathaniel. So that was good. <3 Now I need to get ready to read the sequel :D It will be Zora's story. And I'm so excited about it even though I would wish for more Amelia. Hopefully she will be in the book :) Anyway, have you not read this book yet you really should do so. It is so amazing. The romance is hot, the story amazing.
